The Netflix true crime documentary ‘The Devil on Trial’ delves into the unique case where “demonic possession” was employed as a defense in a murder trial within the United States, marking the inaugural and sole occurrence of such an event. Featuring personal testimonies recounting purported incidents and cinematic reenactments of possession and a harrowing homicide.
What we did
Dorothy Street Pictures tasked us to create the parallax animations that are used throughout the documentary. Using Ai software we increased the resolution of the genuine polaroids from the incidents. We retouched and cleaned the polaroids of scratches then split the images up into layers. We used depth maps to further create the illusion of depth within a 3D environment. Finally we layered grunge and scratches back onto the images.
We also worked with Dorothy St Pictures to design the look and feel of the typography used in the films titles.
